Introducing the Salmo Saxtilis rods, designed by Ken Abrames. Three 10’ 6” rods, each with its own unique taper, all made with IM6X carbon fibers. Their traditional action means an incredible ease in casting and mending, along with precision line control.

Each rod is labeled with the grain weights it can handle — not the line numbers.

The #1 can cast from 200 grains to 400 grains (#8 line through #13+).

The #2 can cast from 180 grains to 360 grains (#7 line through #12 +).

The #3 can cast 160 grains through 320 grains (#6 line through #11+).

Salmo Saxtilis rods are beautifully finished with a rich cherry-chestnut color, flora grade cork handles, a heavy-duty custom reel seat, and a screw-in interchangeable butt for quick conversion to spey casting. Each rod has four stripper guides, #6 and #5 snakes, and a large tip guide for casting ease.

The rod tube is made by Clear Creek. The outside is covered with heavy fabric, and the padded inside has dividers for each rod section. Each tube has a gold logo and is color-coded for the three models.

These rods are both gentle and powerful — extremely caster-friendly — each designed for single backcast efficiency, without the need for double hauling or any form of high line speed gymnastics. Form follows function, and this is the traditional method of fly casting: the rod’s power is released into the cast by the grain weight of the line, working in balance with the natural action of the rod.

Nothing else is required.
